A new white paper series is the latest addition to the Leadership Institute Web site.  The white paper series summarizes leadership research from University of Miami faculty in a concise manner and illustrates how the research is applicable to practical issues.  The introductory topics of the series are Trust and Leadership, Strategic Leadership and Innovation in High-Technology Firms, and Mentoring.   Additional topics will follow on a regular basis.

If you have ever asked yourself, “what leadership books should I be reading?” The Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute can help. The Institute now offers a list of top books on leadership recommended by the Institute’s faculty.

“The Leader’s Bookshelf,” available on the Institute Web site, includes many of the most influential leadership books of all time. The list includes such works as Good to Great by Jim Collins, The Leadership Challenge by James Kouzes & Barry Posner, and The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable by Patrick Lencioni.

An addition to The Leader’s Bookshelf will be a “Best of 2009″ listing the top leadership books released this year, and we would like your input in compiling this list. If you would like to nominate a book for consideration, please e-mail leadershipinstitute@miami.edu. Look for this list in January of 2010.

Visit The Leader’s Bookshelf to see which books you may want to check out at the bookstore.

Leadership Institute faculty member, Dr. Cecily Cooper, recently spoke at a forum at King’s College London about her specialty, trust and trust repair.

On August 17, 2009 the Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute will offer a one-day Winning Leaders and Managers curriculum entitled: Business Acumen and Transformational Leadership. This program will be taught by one of the leading researchers, authors, and instructors in the field, Dr. Johnson A. Edosomwan, after whom the Leadership Institute is named. This course will be hosted by the Institute and held at the James W. McLemore Executive Education Center at the University of Miami School of Business.

The Leadership Institute has recently launched its Winning Leaders and Managers series, and the program is successfully rejuvenating and transforming individuals, organizations, and cultures across the country. Right here in one of the largest counties in Florida, over 250 managers have received this curriculum with ecstatic feedback. One participant said of the program, “In addition to the session being extremely informative, it was very easy to relate every piece of the material to what we do.”

According to the International City and County Managers Association, “The positions of chief administrative officers, city and county managers and assistants require higher skill levels, more creative problem-solving and an ability to inspire the local government workforce to achieve ever-increasing productivity and performance levels.” In fact, leadership development at the mid-manager and executive levels remains a priority for leading cities and counties across this nation, even in these tough economic times.
